Paul was born and raised in Leslie County the son of Alonzo and Orpha Young Howard. He graduated from Leslie County High School in 1971. He then moved to Northern Kentucky to pursue employment opportunities and met and married his wife of more than 36 years, Carolyn Breeden Howard. They have two sons, Paul Jr. and Shayne, three grandsons, Michael, Alex and Vincent, and one grandaughter Katie. Paul and Carolyn returned to Leslie County in 1975 to raise their family and Paul went to work at the IGA store for the late Pearl Asher. Paul became a Deputy Sheriff in 1975 when Sheriff Kermit Keen hired him, handed him a gun and said “go to work.” Paul has seen much change in police work over the years. He was the first policeman from Leslie County to attend the Police Academy and became the first DOJCT Certified policeman in Leslie County. He worked as a Deputy under four administrations as well as Chief of the Hyden City Police. He was elected Sheriff in 2006.

Roger was born November 30th 1960 in Hyden, Kentucky, where he has lived his entire life. He is the youngest son of the late Cova and Fannie Adams of Wendover. He graduated from Leslie County High School in 1979 and from Leslie Co. Vocational School with a certificate in welding. He became a city police officer in 1995 and graduated from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training Center in 1996. Roger worked twelve years for the city of Hyden. He has served as Chief Deputy with the Leslie County Sheriff’s Department since 2007.

Oscar is a native of Burbank, CA. He moved to Eastern Kentucky to be closer to family members who had moved here. Oscar served his country in the US Marine Corps. He is married to Diane Pigman. He attended the Police Academy in Richmond, Kentucky where he graduated in 1995. He has worked as a Deputy Sheriff under three administrations and for the Hyden City Police. He also works full time for CSX Railroads. He has two children Brittany and BJ Young and one grandson, Wyatt Hensley.

Kevin Short is from Middlefork. He graduated from Leslie County High School in 2002. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Stinnett Fire Dept. He is a veteran of the Iraqi war where he served two tours of duty for the US Marine Corps. He also served in Haiti. Kevins lifelong dream was to be a policeman and in August 2008 he joined the Sheriffs Department team. Kevin has one daughter, Emma, age 1.

Robert Wilson is a lifelong resident of Leslie County. He is married to Charlotte Baker. He retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation and was eager for a new challenge. He worked as a Bailiff in 2007 but quickly determined that he had the capacity to do more and so became a Deputy Sheriff. He is currently a CSO. Robert enjoys working out, being active and riding motorcycles.

Brian is a DOCJT certified Court Security Officer. Brian has an associates degree from HCTCS in Auto Body Repair. He works full time for Walmart Distribution and part time as a baliff for Leslie SO.

Miranda is a lifelong resident of Leslie County. She graduated from Alice Lloyd College in 2004 with a BA in English and a minor in History. Miranda joined the Sheriff’s Department team in February 08 as a Tax Clerk. She is married to William Baker who is a Policeman with Hyden PD.

Stacy Mosley joined the Sheriff''s Department Staff as a Tax Clerk in December of 2008. She is the mother of Vincent Jude Howard and resides in Hyden, KY.
